Gout is an arthritic condition that affects different body parts, mainly the toes, ankles, fingers and wrists. The real cause of Gout is unknown but a main reason is high level of uric acid. Gout is rather painful, sometimes even changing the color of the joints to red or blue. A Gout attack happens when a person who has high levels of uric acid in his body, also has a build-up of uric acid around a joint. There are some natural remedies to ease up the gout attack:
Apple Cider Vinegar
The acidity present in the apple cider vinegar helps in relieving the acute pain associated with gout attack. Addition of honey is also recommended to increase the body’s anti-inflammatory response. It can be just mixed with water and should be taken at least 2-3 times a day.
Ginger root actively helps in easing the pain and inflammation caused by a Gout attack due to its anti-inflammatory properties. Ginger root could be easily added to cooking recipes and could be mixed with warm water and taken daily.
Since gout attack is caused by increased levels of uric acid in the body, in-take of something which lowers the uric acid is the best way to avoid gout attack. This is where we use baking soda. Baking soda helps in reducing the levels of uric acid in the body. Baking soda mixed with water should be taken daily but in moderate quantities.
Another natural remedy to reduce the uric acid in the body is to drink lemon juice. Lemon neutralizes the overflow of uric acid in the body.
Tart Cherries And Strawberries
The powerful compounds found in cherries help in relieving and preventing gout in the body. All kinds of berries and cherries are a source of antioxidants. They help in repairing the damage caused to your body.
Epsom Salt Bath
Epsom salt is rich in magnesium which helps in lowering the high blood pressure. When the affected gout body part is soaked in warm Epsom salt mixed water, it relaxes the muscles and helps in relieving pain.
The malic acid an active element in apples, help stabilize the uric acid in the body, thus relieving gout pain and inflammation. Apple juice has same effect as raw apples.
Some lifestyle changes that are recommended for gout are the following:
- Minimize alcohol consumption as it promotes dehydration.
- Minimize caffeine products
- Drink enough water. Not enough water in the body causes the uric acid to increase Drinking enough water will stabilize the uric acid.
- Lose weight, if overweight.
There are a lot of medicines mainly NSAIDs like ibuprofen and naproxen etc. that can help the body in reducing inflammation but the overuse has its own set of side effects. Whereas, the natural or herbal remedies will never have side effects are an equally effective way to reduce the symptoms. A change is lifestyle is also mandatory for people suffering from gout.
